Are you hesitant to use CBD? Are you slightly confused as to how it differs from other cannabis products? If so, you’re not alone. In fact CBD and THC are so similar in so many ways, it’s difficult to understand why they act so differently in the body. Both Cannabinoids interact with your body’s endocannabinoid system and both have almost identical chemical structure. So why does THC make you feel high and CBD doesn’t?
Despite their similarities, CBD doesn’t have the same psychoactive effects that are present in THC. This is due to the fact that CBD and THC bind with different receptors in your body. THC binds with the CB1 receptor in the brain which produces a sense of euphoria, while CBD barely binds at all with the CB1 receptor, instead sticking to the CB2 receptor. THC and CBD have a lot of the same effects, but for some, cutting out the “high” can be very beneficial.
CBD is generally very well tolerated. Research suggests that most side effects that occur with CBD are the result of drug interactions between CBD and other medications. For this reason, it’s important to consult with a doctor before taking CBD. THC on the other hand has more side effects to consider. These include red eyes, coordination issues, dry mouth, increased heart rate, slower reaction times, and memory loss. All of these symptoms are present because of THC’s psychoactive properties. So if you’re looking for relief from anxiety, depression, seizures, or migraines (just to name a few) but don’t want to get high, CBD may be an option worth looking into!
